Lunar Base

European Space Agency’s version of a permanent lunar base.

Before 2030, Russia plans to land its first cosmonauts on the moon, and Europe wants a piece of the action.

They’re a little late for the great space race of the ’60s, but the mission is an admirable push for the re-ignited interest in manned deep-space travel.

On Tuesday, at a space and technology conference in Moscow, the head of Roscosmos Energia — Russia’s version of NASA — announced: “A manned flight to the moon and lunar landing is planned for 2029.”

And the European Space Agency (ESA), who made history last year by landing the first ever spacecraft on a comet, is teaming up.

“We have an ambition to have European astronauts on the Moon,” Bérengère Houdou, who is the head of the lunar exploration group at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Center, recently told BBC News. “There are currently discussion at international level going on for broad cooperation on how to go back to the Moon.”

Both Russia and Europe have expressed interest in establishing a permanent base on the moon. And they have already begun taking the fist steps toward this ultimate goal.

Last month, Roscosmos announced that it will send a lander, called Luna 25, to the moon’s south pole in 2024. After touch down, the lander will investigate the lunar surface for future lunar bases.

The Luna 25 mission was initially proposed in 1997 and has since suffered a number of delays, but it seems that with Europe’s aid the mission could finally get the jump start it needs. Construction on the spacecraft has already begun, Tech Insider reported.

This collaborative effort is a welcomed contrast to the lonely space race of the mid-20th century. While Europe and Russia raise their collective eyes to the moon, NASA continues its quest for a farther, more dangerous mission: Mars.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama got a guided tour of the moon on Monday, peering at its craters through a large reflective telescope set up on the South Lawn of the White House to promote science and technology careers at "Astronomy Night."
Obama was joined by budding young scientists who checked out a moon rock and took selfies with NASA astronauts and other science celebrities.
Chief among the selfie targets: Ahmed Mohamed, better known as "clock boy." Mohamed, 14, was arrested last month when he brought a homemade clock to his Dallas-area school that teachers mistook for a bomb.
Mohamed was wearing a NASA t-shirt when he was arrested. The photo went viral, prompting an invitation from Obama to the astronomy event.
Obama briefly met Mohamed as he shook hands with students at the event, giving the student a hug.
"We need to inspire more young people to ask about the stars," Obama told the crowd, urging parents and teachers to help students explore the field.
"We have to watch for and cultivate and encourage those glimmers of curiosity and possibility - not suppress them, not squelch them," he said.
Obama told the students that his staff don't let him "tinker with the telescopes," and got help looking at the moon from high school senior and astronomy buff Sofy Alvarez-Bareiro of Brooklyn, New York.
Alvarez-Bareiro explained to Obama that the craters were "the result of heavy bombardment with other gigantic space stuff."
"Is 'space stuff' a scientific term?" Obama quipped, drawing laughs from about 300 students and teachers at the event.
Obama said that earlier in the day he spoke to astronauts living on the International Space Station. He touted his administration's record in science, noting that NASA was on track to develop capabilities to send humans to Mars in the 2030s.
"Some of you might be on your way to Mars!" Obama told the students.

This is the biggest surprise about America I've heard from foreign visitors

This is the biggest surprise about America I've heard from foreign visitors

A tourist takes a selfie with the Statue of Liberty.
I've always been fascinated with how non-Americans perceive the United States. Yes, it's true that Americans are already the global leaders in national narcissism without my indulging it any further. Still, I've found that the US really is a topic of relatively frequent discussion abroad, and not just when it comes to politics and foreign policy.
American cultural exports are consumed widely. The US draws 70-plus million foreign tourists every year, the second-highest number in the world after France. People often have a lot of thoughts about America, and those who visit often come away with a lot of surprises.
48. Americans are acutely conscious of race, in the way British people are acutely conscious of class. The Guardian's Paul Owen, a British journalist living in New York, compiled a list of his surprises as an Englishman in America. Many are Brit-specific; America's deficient tea culture gets heavy coverage. But there was one that really jumped out at me, because it's something I've heard first-time visitors to the US mention over and over again:
The latter half of that is obviously British-specific (and undeniably true), but the former is something I've heard from Egyptians, Russians, Pakistanis, Chinese, and many others.
"You Americans," I've heard time and again, "are really obsessed with race."
Another way I've heard this put, and that has stuck with me every since: Americans are always talking about race, but they often do it in code and consider it impolite to actually reference race outright.
She is from China, and said that at first, on coming to the US, did not realize how many conversations that seemed to be about something else were really about race. And she was surprised how uncomfortable people got when she'd refer to someone's race; how could it be rude to mention someone's race to them when race was coming up all the time anyway?
Once, for a story on what foreign guidebooks tell visitors to the US, I came across a warning to tourists that struck me as a good one: Even though you'll hear lots of discussion about race, don't try to participate. There are a thousand unwritten rules for how to talk about race in America, and if you don't know how to navigate the land mines — which you won't — then you're better off avoiding the subject.
Some might consider this a bad thing, a sign of PC culture and speech policing run amok, but I take the opposite view. Race is indeed a major and central part of American life and history, a legacy of slavery, colonialism, mass immigration, and our own national identity as untied to any one ethnicity or race. We've learned — or, more accurately, are still learning — to engage the subject with appropriate care and sensitivity, to acknowledge the multitudinous American experiences and take them into account.
As an American, it can sometimes be easy to forget that the degree to which we talk and think about race, while not unique in the world, is relatively unusual. I'm always reminded of this when I talk to foreign visitors who are shocked at how much they hear about race and how difficult the subject can be to navigate. It can indeed make discussing the Israel-Palestine conflict seem pretty easy by comparison.

US F-16 struck by enemy fire in Afghanistan in rare attack......

Kabul (AFP) - A US F-16 was struck by enemy fire in eastern Afghanistan, military officials have confirmed to AFP, in a rare instance of an advanced fighter jet coming under a Taliban-claimed attack.

The multi-million dollar jet sustained significant damage, forcing it to jettison its fuel tanks and munitions before returning to base, officials said.

The attack occurred last Tuesday in the Sayid Karam district of eastern Paktia province, much of which is under control of the Taliban, who have been waging an insurgency against US-led NATO forces and government troops since they were forced from power in 2001.

The militant group claimed they had downed the jet in a statement posted on Twitter that evening, but when contacted for comment, the US military initially said it had no "operational reporting to support the Taliban claims".

Photographs of the site obtained by AFP and seen by J. Chacko, an open-source military analyst based in London, indicated the jet had lost two "drop-tanks" -- fuel tanks used to extend flight time -- an air-to-ground missile, and two other unguided bombs.

They also show masked militants posing with the hardware.

When presented with the images, the US military confirmed in a statement to AFP late Saturday: "On October 13, a US F-16 encountered small arms fire in the Paktia Province in Afghanistan. The surface to air fire impacted one of the aircraft's stabilisers and caused damage to one of the munitions.

"The pilot jettisoned two fuel tanks and three munitions before safely returning to base. The pilot received no injuries and safely returned to base."

The Taliban have shot down several military helicopters using small-arms fire, but never an F-16 -- an advanced jet capable of supersonic speeds and reaching heights of 50,000 feet, which have been deployed in Afghanistan since the beginning of the US-led military in 2001.

Since the 2014 drawdown, the US Air Force has maintained one squadron of F-16s at Bagram Air Base.

In April 2013, a US F-16 crashed into a mountain near Bagram while flying low in bad weather, according to a US military investigation, and a Dutch pilot was killed when his F-16 crashed in 2006.

The latest generation of the F-16 has a price tag of more than $100 million per jet according to a deal reached with the Iraqi Air Force last year, which included spare parts and a support package.

- Special forces air support? -

Tuesday's incident underscores the risks foreign forces still face at the hands of the group as Washington extends its military presence in the country beyond 2016.

Chacko, as well as two other military analysts contacted by AFP, said the jet would have had to be flying very close to the ground to be struck by Taliban fire -- perhaps as low as a few hundred feet.

"An F-16 would have to be flying very low altitude at close to minimum speed for it to receive actionable fire from small arms," an ex-military source said.

"Small arms fire could reach a maxium height of around 1,500 metres (5,000 feet)," a third analyst said.

Niaz Mohammad Khalil, district governor of Sayid Karam, told AFP that neither US nor Afghan forces had been conducting any operation in the area that would have necessitated the use of air cover at the time of the attack.

"We had no operation at the time of (the) crash, but the jet was flying very low... There were also other jets flying over the area," he said.

According to Chacko, the fact that local officials did not mention any friendly forces in the area meant the pilot was likely providing covering fire for a Special Operations Forces (SOF) team that ran into trouble.

The US military declined to comment on the pilot's mission.

The US military acknowledges that remaining SOF teams are still conducting on the ground missions against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, although NATO forces officially ended their combat mission in Afghanistan at the end of 2014.

WHAT IS MEDICAL LABORATORY

What is a medical laboratory scientist?

Clinical laboratory sciences (also known as medical technology) is a biology/chemistry-based bachelor's degree that prepares students for exciting, challenging and dynamic careers in places such as hospital labs and clinics, forensic labs, veterinary clinics, industrial research labs and molecular biotechnology labs. Professionals in this field are in high demand, and with future growth predicted to be above average for all professions, CLS provides solid job security. Here you will find out about types of careers available to the CLS graduate. As a medical laboratory scientist, you will analyze blood, urine, tissue or other body specimens - these test results play an important role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Explore the Careers of CLS

Earning a degree in clinical laboratory science opens doors to a wide variety of career opportunities. The majority of CLS graduates sit for the national certification examination that grants them the credentials of Medical Laboratory Scientist, or MLS. An MLS (also formerly known as a clinical laboratory scientist or medical technologist) is a "disease detective" helping to pinpoint the cause of disease through the examination and anaylsis of blood, tissue and other body fluids.

Specialty areas of laboratory medicine include clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology and the emerging field of molecular diagnostics. It is estimated that 70-80% of a physician’s medical decisions on any one patient are a direct result of laboratory test data.

The field of laboratory testing has evolved, and with the appearance of sophisticated automated analytical instruments, the CLS practitioner finds him or herself in the role of making decisions about the validity of data to be used by physicians in medical decisions. This type of analysis requires extensive knowledge of normal and abnormal physiology, correlation of laboratory data to specific disease as well as extensive knowledge of instrumentation and individual test principles.

The high-demand field of CLS offers rapid advancement, multiple employment opportunities and a competitive salary.

How to Get Started

A good first step is to talk with someone who is a medical laboratory scientist or medical technologist. If possible, “shadow” an MLS for a few days. The most obvious place to find an MLS is in your local hospital laboratory – keeping in mind that hospital laboratories do not reflect the nature of all CLS work opportunities.

The molecular biotechnology specialty of CLS can be found working in areas of research, industrial, and forensic laboratories for example as well as in medical laboratories. For students already enrolled at the University of Kansas, CLS 210 is offered fall and spring semesters on the Lawrence campus. This course does provide an overview of the profession and all of its subspecialities and is a very good way to learn about a CLS career.

We are happy to help answer any questions you may have: to contact the KU Department of CLS Education, please email us at clsed@kumc.edu or call (913) 588-5220 to schedule an informational visit or have a personal tour of the clinical laboratories at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Preparation: High School and College Coursework

High school preparation should include as much math and science as possible – minimally biology, chemistry and physics and math through calculus. If you have completed high school, did not take the math and science courses but want to become an MLS, you may need to take preparatory courses before enrolling in the standard college level biology, math and chemistry courses. Most community colleges offer these preparatory courses.

To become an MLS, one must enroll in an accredited program. The KU School of Health Professions, located on the KU Medical Center campus, offers a 2+2 accredited program culminating in a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science. Since clinical laboratory science is an undergraduate degree, it is your “major”.

Even though the Clinical Laboratory Science degree is offered through the School of Health Professions, the prerequisite coursework (first 2 years) is taken at any accredited post-secondary educational institution, and at KU is offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the Lawrence or Edwards campus. The first 2 years of the degree consist of traditional academic coursework such as a biology or pre-med major might take - biological sciences, chemistry and math. It is strongly recommended that students seek advising from the Department of CLS as early as possible in their college career to get assistance in selecting appropriate courses and minimize scheduling conflicts.

If you already have a college degree you may be able to enter an accredited CLS program to complete the professional component if you have the necessary prerequisites.

Top of page

What to do to enter KU's CLS professional program (last 2 years of bachelor's degree)

Students who have entered their sophomore year of college and anticipate completion of prerequisites by the end of the academic year may apply to the KU CLS Education Department for admission into the professional component of the program (see How to Apply).

The last 2 years (beginning in August each year) of clinical coursework and practicum are taken in the metropolitan Kansas City area primarily at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

During the senior year, students may choose to pursue the traditional clinical concentration or enter the molecular biotechnology concentration. These concentrations will differ in the coursework and practicum taken during the last semester of the senior year when both groups of students will rotate through a series of affiliate sites both medical and non-medical, to gain experience in the application of the skills and knowledge acquired during the professional program (see curriculum for details). These practicums also provide exposure to a wide range of potential employers and work settings.

Most of the clinical sites for practicum rotations are located within two hours of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Students need to be aware of the possibility of relocation during the final semester. Housing and meals are the responsibility of the student.

National Certification – how to get it and what it means

After graduation from the KU's CLS program, students are eligible to take the national certification examination. In most medical laboratories, certification is a requirement for continued employment (as well as advancement and optimum salary). Some states have a separate licensure process as well. Kansas does not.

Specific information on the certification process will be provided by KU to students during their senior year. The ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) administers certification examinations for both the traditional MLS and the molecular biology credentials.

Most of the students from the University of Kansas Department of CLS have received employment offers by graduation or shortly thereafter. Prospective employers may recruit actively on campus or send notifications of employment opportunities to the department to be distributed to students.

Better battery life between Samsung galaxy S6 and IPhone 6 plus from my own experience

The smartphoneworld has recently been spoken world widely because of the advancement in phones technology

Guys are w orking very hard to get money in order to pay their bills, they want to buy a phone that will serve them through out of the day when they are working. Now for those who are thinking of samsung galaxy s6 or iPhone can go through this help from my experince over those Apple's and Samsung galaxy's products

Samsung galaxy s6 or iPhone 6 plus are better for heavy users as well as to those who love to play a lot games as I used to do when at breaktime and i was into emails a lot and messages a lot like whatsaap and Facebook .
when i was currently using samsung galaxy s5 it gave me a lot problems battery life was too poor ok so I wanted to change phone and the only choices I was thinking of were Samsung galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 plus.

I thanks god that I got both of them at once so I had a wonderful chance of knowing them perfectly.

            SAMSUNG

Now,If it's just battery power you want both phones are good but there are better battery life phones. Both phones are quick for recharging. My s6 edge charged from empty to full in about 1 hour 40 mins. The s6 is just a pure power house and you get to brag about its benchmark scores and nothing comes close as a package. iPhone will have to wait until either the 6s or iPhone 7 to try to take the title again. S6 = Better hardware, design, camera, display and so on. iPhone has the easier OS though.

Tanzania: Edward Lowassa and the politics of rumour and endorsement –

Tanzania: Edward Lowassa and the politics of rumour and endorsement

What “stands between Edward Lowassa and the presidency”, a top journalist claimed, “is his illness.” When I queried what ails the immediate former Prime Minister of Tanzania who is ‘campaigning’ to be our next president in the October general elections, the media guru came up with these kind of ‘conjectures’: ‘Some people say this and others say that.’

After I posed a similar question to a newspaper vendor a day after Lowassa announced his aim to contest, he answered; “Edo is fit!” Interestingly, the newspapers were splashed with photographs that seemed to quash the ongoing rumours about the state of health of one of the country’s leading presidential hopefuls. My favourite is the one that shows him raising his left hand, which, alongside the left eye and leg, has been the subject of intense speculation.

Prior to his cleverly orchestrated rally in a packed stadium in Arusha, Lowassa met with news editors in Dodoma and thus attempted to quash the rumours: “I want to assure you and my fellow Tanzanians that I am fit and kicking, totally fit and I am ready for anything!” Stressing that health is a gift from God’s grace and that there are people who do not wish others well, he came up with a far-fetched call for his party to form a team of local and foreign doctors who will examine all its presidential hopefuls. In regard to this, he volunteered to be the first to be medically examined.

The health question is not the only main issue that Lowassa has been at pains to address in regard to whether he is fit to govern. Another key issue is what Kitila Mkumbo has dubbed Lowassa’s ‘integrity deficit.’ By this he means that his image is associated with – if not tarnished by – corruption scandals and accumulation of wealth while in public office.

Unsurprisingly, the ‘Lowassa Question’ continues to predominate public debates as political heavyweights from the ruling party, CCM, have started to officially announce their aspirations. The question demand answers and, against all (popular) odds, ‘Team Lowassa’ is busy attempting to provide them to the satisfaction of a suspicious electorate.

One of the main strategies, then, has been to court, posthumously, the endorsement of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the first president of the country and founding chairman of CCM, who is said to have called for the dismissing of Lowassa in the 1995 presidential primaries. Diehard Nyerereists have thus been attempting, both in public and private, to argue against what they consider to be a ‘revisionist history’ that misuses and dishonours Nyerere. Lowassa has even denounced as “a lie” the assertion that Nyerere rejected him.

Kingunge Ngombale Mwiru’s endorsement of Lowassa has thus come as a shock. As one of the few remaining ideologues of the Nyerere era, he was generally expected to honor his late comrade. But, alas, in Arusha he went as far as trying, subtly, to connect Lowassa to Nyerere by arguing that he is a product of the grooming that occurred during their times.

Shrewdly, the seasoned CCM cadre also claimed that he was representing the elders in the platform at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Kaluta Stadium and those ‘out there’, something which could insinuate that former presidents – Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Benjamin Mkapa whom he mentioned by name – were also endorsing Lowassa.

Combining his legendary oratory skills and political acumen, he also tried to connect him to two key figures in CCM’s nomination process. Aikande Kwayu aptly captures the calculated move: “Kingunge also highlighted the “link” among key party leaders with Mr. Lowassa – saying, he is the same generation of party cadets with Mr. Kinana (the party Secretary General) and Mr. Kikwete (the party chairman and the current/outgoing President of the country) who were trained on party ideas since TANU [pre-CCM] era.”

No wonder Kinana sounded as if he was also endorsing Lowassa way back in March when he was quoted as saying the Monduli constituency (Lowassa’s own) has a strong and hardworking leader. And little wonder that in May Lowassa was thus quoted as eliciting the endorsement of the incumbent President: “We agreed that whoever wins the race should support the other. In 2005, I supported Kikwete for presidency and was the chairman of the campaign team. Given this, it is now my turn to contest for presidency.” What a recipe for rumours.

Rumours, however, are not incidental. As Paul Bjerk reminds us in his analysis of Dar es Salaam as ‘A City of Rumours’, they “thrive amidst uncertainty, where the desperate search for information takes on the urgency of a survival tactic.” And that is exactly what Tanzania is facing today. It is four months before the elections and we are still searching.

Yes, we are searching for information about the Richmond scandal that led to Lowassa’s resignation as the Prime Minister in 2008. Why now? Because we did not get all the answers then and he is now using it as a ‘trump card’. After claiming, in Dodoma, that even Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton affirmed that the then Richmond’s generators [that Symbion bought from Dowans] as “state of the art”, rumours had it that he will spill the beans in Arusha.

Vodacom’s alleged scandal that was posted in an anonymous blog has generated 69,558 online hits/searches and fueled rumours not least because the name of Lowassa’s son is mentioned. Even though Lowassa was not named in the recent Tegeta Escrow Account scandal, conspiracy theorists are still attempting to find a connection, if any, to those who got millions, such as Prof. Anna Tibaijuka who was glaringly visible in the Arusha rally.

Money also endorses. However, it comes with a cost. In this regard Edward, as some editors who gathered in his home at Dodoma fondly call him, finds himself having to explain his (apparent) opulence. “I wish I was that rich” was part of his response to a question one of the journalists posed.

Friends of Lowassa, however, have continued to dish out money in religious and other fundraising events that are tantamount to endorsing (if not campaigning for) him. “I have no money but I have friends” and “I enjoy fundraising” for helping developmental causes, he proudly defends his actions. One wonders why he is the ‘magnet’ that attracts such money. More significantly, what if there is ‘pay back time’ if he wins the elections?

By commending leading businessmen as instrumental in poverty eradication and being closely associated with the wealthy, Lowassa gives us a glimpse of what would define his leadership. “I crave for prosperity”, he honestly admitted and remarked: “I hate poverty!”

However, the same presidential hopeful, who claims that we “can transform our nation from being the begging bowl to become the bread basket of Africa”, is seemingly being endorsed by philanthropists through fundraising. If simply attending his Arusha rally was endorsement, then one couldn’t help but notice a number of representatives of finance capital such as the board director of African Barrick Gold, Ambassador Juma Mwapachu.

Lowassa’s team has indeed managed to brand him as hardworking. On that account he get endorsements even in unlikely places. But rumour has it that all this is not enough. Of “all the people”, a friend of mine laments about our seemingly limited choices, “why Lowassa?” Such rhetorical questions will continue to linger among those who doubt him.

Is Lowassa healthy to lead? I don’t know. All I know is that we need healthy leadership.

It is only yesterday I was asking a reporter from one of the dailies with large circulation, why in his file, did not include one, two, three and four on Lowassa. He replied quickly, “…most of those were in there but you know how it works – they were cut out in the name of ‘avoiding animosity;’ and honestly, I did not include some of the issues you have mentioned… don’t want to create more confusion.” Confusion? Or what? Media practitioners are doing very little in bringing out the insides of presidential hopefuls.

African leaders are selfish and feel less concerned about the people. Like most African leaders, even is Lowasa knows is sick and unfit to rule, he must go and die there. It happened here in Nigeria when our late president, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua still went through the rigours of campaigning through the length and breadth of Nigeria knowing that he was sick.
All entreaties fell on deaf ears.
God will deliver us in Africa!

Best iPhone 6S deals on Vodafone

Offers extras like Spotify and Sky Sports

FREE 16GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 2GB data | £44pmFinding iPhone 6S deals which offer the phone for free upfront is pretty difficult but Vodafone and Mobile Phones Direct have teamed up to offer just that. FREE 64GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 10GB data | £54pm Another free phone offer here from Vodafone and MPD - this time it's on the 64GB version of the iPhone 6S and you get 10GB data for £54 per month. There are slightly cheaper options on this phone from this network - you can use the filter at the top of the page to find them. But we like this deal for it's super generous data allowance and above all its no upfront cost! The total 24 month cost on this deal is £1296.

The network with extras like O2 Priority

EXCLUSIVE: 16GB | £50 FREE phone | O2 | Unlimited calls and texts | 5GB data | £39pmThis is an exclusive deal available for anyone who uses the TechRadar discount code. Get the Gold version | Get the Silver version | Get the Space Grey version | Get the Rose Gold version

£75 64GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 5GB data | £39pmThis deal is significantly better than the best 64GB deal from last month. 5GB data for £39 is very good value for this pricey phone, and the £75 upfront cost, while annoying, is fair when you look at the other deals out there. If you go for this one it will cost you £1,011 over the 24 months of the contract.

£99.99 128GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 3GB data | £46pmThis is definitely the best deal on a 128GB iPhone 6S from the O2 network, courtesy of Carphone Warehouse. Unlimited texts and calls backed up by 3GB data and a £99.99 128GB handset - it's not cheap but it is good value compared to what the market looks like for this phone right now. Total cost over 24 months is £1203.99.

Best iPhone 6S deals on EE

The place to go if you want high-speed 4G

£60 16GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 5GB data | £36.99pmSolid deal, this, from EE. Just £60 upfront for the 16GB iPhone 6S with 5GB data for £36.99 per month. This is a good deal cheaper than the best deals from even last month so you can choose this one in the knowledge you're not paying over the odds. Total cost over 24 months £947.76

£25 64GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 5GB data | £41.99pmThis iPhone 6S deal is, again, a lot cheaper than the best one from last month. £25 upfront is more than reasonable and £42 per month will get you unlimited calls and texts and 5GB data - enough for anyone. Best iPhone 6S deals on Three

The network with unlimited data

£99 16GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 4GB of data | £43pmThis is the cheapest iPhone 6S deal we can find on the Three network with a decent data allowance. It's pretty good value and it comes direct from Three so there's no third parties involved here. Total cost over 24 months is £1131.

Get this deal: direct from Three

£99 64GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 4GB data | £48pmNot a bad deal from Three on the 64GB iPhone 6S but you'll notice it's not quite as good value as the other networks on this page. If you want to stick with Three for its excellent 'Feel At Home' scheme this is the best 64GB deal currently out there. Total cost over 24 months is £1251.

Get this deal: direct from Three

£99 128GB phone | Unlimited calls and texts | 4GB data | £53pm

The 128GB version here offers a bit more space for music and video than the 16GB and 64GB models. You get 4GB data which is a good start. This is a the best 128GB deal on Three but it's not as attractive as the other networks right now so we encourage you to look further up the page for better value links. The total cost of this tariff is £1371 over 24 months.

Best iPhone 6S deals from iD

The in-house network from Carphone Warehouse

£199.99 16GB phone | 600 mins | 5000 texts | 1GB data | £35.50pm

If you're looking for a low monthly fee above all else, this is a good option from iD - the Carphone Warehouse-run white label network which piggybacks on Three's infrastructure. It's by no means the best value deal on this page if you're looking at lifetime cost but the monthly fee is low. Total cost of this contract over 24 months is £1051.99

Get this deal: from Carphone Warehouse

£139.99 64GB phone | 600 mins | 5000 texts | 1GB data | £41.50

Again this isn't the most attractive deal, but does offer a fairly low monthly cost for the 64GB version of the iPhone 6S smartphone. We'd really advise going for one of the deals on the other networks which offer more for less - check out the 64GB deal from O2 above. Total lifetime cost of this contract over 24 months is £1135.99

Get this deal: from Carphone Warehouse

£189.99 128GB phone | 600 mins | 5000 texts | 1GB data | £41.50

Offering probably better value than teh 64GB deal above - if storage capacity means anything to you - this deal still isn't great when you compare against the ones further up the page and you really should be getting more data than this. Total lifetime cost of this contract over 24 months is £1185.99
